And we're off
Okay, it works! This should increase my blogging frequency…
I gotta get the book that has this http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2007/mayweb-only/118-22.0.html in it.
Seriously. I read a couple of reviews and I think Tony has offended everyone…conservative McChurch folk, CHECK; independent I-Hate-McChurch-Folk, CHECK; Democrats…okay maybe he didn’t offend them. All I’m saying is I read his stuff and am not offended at all. I think I just accidentally called myself a democrat (I am an independent anarchist).
More to come.

i loved it! no two truer statements have come together to elucidate it:
"Young people often tell me that they are wary of the institutional church because they believe it is filled with hypocrites. Well, it is. "
and
"In spite of all its flaws and shortcomings, I still believe that the church is filled, for the most part, with decent and caring people who will be there when you need them."

I buy this stuff, but I think it becomes much more intelligible in a Catholic or Eastern Orthodox context (or at least mainline denominational). I've long found arguments for the importance of Church compelling, but I think most of those arguments do not argue for protestant (especially evangelical) forms of church (insofar as those churches prioritize the individual), but for "high" forms of church.
Anyway, its for those types of reasons that I think about becoming Catholic or Orthodox.

Phil, I think I understand where you are coming from. My main concern (with limited to no exposure to the churches you mentioned) would be this: If Jesus main message was the Kingdom of Heaven on earth, breaking in, and moving, then is that message preached. Is the reality of God's kingdom seen amongst His people (collectively and not solely as individuals)?
